What: Can you provide documented proof that the mechanics who perform maintenance & inspection on your company’s class 8 trucks are qualified? If not, you and/or your company may be in violation of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. You could be exposing yourself and/or your employer to liability in the event of an accident or a shop audit.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act require mechanics and/or employees who perform vehicle service and/or inspections to provide proof that they are qualified to perform that service or inspection.
This is not a brake clinic but rather, an overview of a basic foundation air brake system and some common failures. This class meets the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act for “annual (periodic) vehicle inspections (see 49 CFR 396.19 or brake inspections, maintenance, service or repairs (see 49 CFR 396.25)”. We will also take a quick look at common brake block ingredients.
Many states require a road service mechanic to be “brake certified” before allowing road service repair to occur if a vehicle has been pulled from service during a road side inspection.
You will leave the class with a wallet card showing that you are brake certified. A “Brake Inspector Qualifications” form will be provided that your employer will sign (or you sign if self-employed) completing the certification process. A certificate of attendance will be sent several days after completion of the class.
Please join us for a quick refresher on foundation brakes and receive your Brake Inspector wallet card, Brake Inspector employee/employer form and certificate of attendance!
